Town Seeks Volunteers

Town Seeks Volunteers

The Town of Stanardsville is seeking volunteers interested in serving in several important capacities:

  1. Town of Stanardsville Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA): This position ensures that the public receives due process in matters where they might disagree with the planning and zoning officials. Typically, BZA members have very few meetings, but when a case does arise, the members of the BZA must evaluate the application of the law to ensure that it has been fairly and properly applied.
      a. Seeking three to five volunteers aged 18 and over.
      b. No previous experience necessary but experience with contracts, planning and zoning, construction, or logic is a plus.
      c. Successful candidates will be required to attend training.
      d. By law, volunteers on the BZA cannot be an elected official and must reside within the boundaries of the incorporated town of Stanardsville.
  2. Volunteers Willing to Take on Council Appointments: Town Council provides numerous opportunities for citizens to volunteer.
      a. Stanardsville Independence Day Committee (SIDC)—organizes, funds, and produces the 4th of July every year including the, “Red, White, Blue ‘n Greene”.
      b. Stanardsville Area Revitalization (STAR)—organizes and funds the Streetscape Improvement Efforts as well as economic revitalization efforts for our small town.
      c. Main Street Improvement Team—coordinates community trash pick-ups and helps to spruce up the town through gardening, clean-ups, and aesthetics improvement initiatives.

See a need, fill a need.  If you have an idea for how to make our town better, please let us know.  Call Mayor Mike Payne at (540)-290-8344 or email him at MPayne@stanardsville.org.  And thank you, in advance, for helping Stanardsville—A Small Town with Big Potential!
