As noted in the Town’s 2017 Comprehensive Plan, there are 45 employers in Stanardsville, including self-employed households and Greene County agencies. Another 19 employers are located just outside of the Town limits. Consequently, Stanardsville and the immediate surrounding area remains one of the major employment bases for Greene County, hosting an estimated 28% of all jobs in the County.  These include employees of the public schools, the county, and the courts.

Following is a brief description of businesses and places of interest in Stanardsville, in random order, with links to their websites where applicable.

Noon Whistle Pottery

Located on the east end of Stanardsville, at 328 Main Street, offers hundreds of artworks and handcrafted treasures by 150 American artisans displayed over three floors of an original car dealership building.  The store and adjoining studio is owned and operated by local artists and musicians, Holly Horan and John Pluta.   Noon Whistle is open 10:00 – 6:00 Tuesday – Saturday; Noon – 5:00 on Sunday; and Mondays “by chance.”  For more information, contact store at 434-985-6500.

The Lafayette Inn and Restaurant

Occupies one of the most historic buildings in Stanardsville, located at 146 Main Street.  The handsome three-story brick building with wrap-around porch was built in 1841 and over the years has been a hotel, Civil War hospital, tavern, Post Office, telephone exchange and other businesses.   Today it is a B&B offering six luxury suites with private entrance and bathroom.  The award-winning Restaurant is fully open on weekends, beginning with lunch service on Fridays and continuing through dinner service on Sundays.   Contact owners Alan or Kaye Pyles at 434-985-6345.

►Greene County Library

A branch of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library system, Greene County Library offers numerous programs for adults and children, including a film series, internet access, on-line resources, a meeting room seating 60, notary services, and more.  The library is located on the east side of Stanardsville at 222 Main Street and is open Mon. from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tues. from 12:00 to 8:00 pm, Wed. and Thurs. from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Fri. from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sat. from 12:00 to 5:00 pm.  The Branch Manager is Ginny Reese.  Phone 434-985-5227.

Greene Pharmacy

This full-service drug store, established in 1977, offers a complete line of health and beauty aids, including health-care equipment and other medical devices.  It accepts most prescription drug plans and will special order hard-to-find medicines.  In addition to over-the-counter medicines, the drug store also stocks it shelves with gifts, greeting cards, jewelry, candy, tee-shirts and caps, etc.   Pharmacist Vickie Watts manages a friendly and helpful staff.  Greene Pharmacy is located at 331 Main Street on the east side of Stanardsville, with ample parking.  Phone 434-985-3424.

Chameleon Silk Screen Company

Just off Main Street at 63 Ford Ave in Stanardsville, this family-owned silk screen company does all art design and printing in house, with a quick turn-around.  Chameleon specializes in school graphics, sports insignias, and company logos for printing on T-shirts, sweat clothes, polo shirts, jackets, bags, and “whatever else we can print on.”  The Doerr family can be reached at 434-985-7456.

Grace Health Care

Grace Retirement Village is a full service continuum of care campus on more than twenty acres on the east side of Stanardsville behind the Library.  The campus offers skilled nursing, rehabilitation services, assisted living and memory care services.  The facilities are located at 422 William Mills Dr.  Phone 434-985-4481.

Pioneer Bank

This full service bank branch, located in front of the shopping center west of Stanardsville, at 8315 Spotswood Trail, is open Mon. through Thurs. from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and until 6:00 p.m. on Friday.  The lobby is also open Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. until Noon.  Drive-through window service is also available those times, but beginning at 8:30 a.m. on weekdays.   ATM machine is available 24 hours a day.  The Branch Manager is Donna Harlow.  Phone 434-990-6516.

Greene County Record

The Greene County Record is published weekly every Thursday, covering local news, sports, events, entertainment, lifestyle stories, church bulletins, and the usual classified ads, real estate listings, obituaries, recent property transfers, etc.   Some of the most popular features are the weekly “In and Around” community calendar, Letters to the Editor, and the “Learning from Our Past” excerpts from headline news events dating up to 90 years ago.   Editorial deadline is 11:00 a.m. Monday.  The office is located at 113 Main Street; mailing address is P.O. Domino’s Pizza

Domino’s has a carryout location at 41 Ford Ave.  Pizza specials are offered every day.  It also serves chicken wings, boneless chicken, oven-baked sandwiches, pastas, stuffed cheezy breads, desserts and more.  Delivery and carryout hours are Sun. – Thurs. from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.; Fri. and Sat. from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.  Carryout orders can be placed on-line.  Phone 434-985-1888.

United Bank

This full service bank branch, located across from Grace Church at 96 Main Street in Stanardsville, is open Mon. – Thurs. from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and until 6:00 p.m. on Friday.   The lobby is also open Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. until Noon.  Drive-through window service is available during those times, and a walk-up ATM machine is available 24 hours a day.  The Branch Manager is Donna Harlow.  Phone 434-985-6406.

Greene Great Valu

Greene Great Valu is a full-service grocery store locally owned and operated by Heidi and Chin Yoon.  It is located in the shopping center west of Stanardsville, at 8271 Spotswood Trail.  The website provides information on daily sales and promotions.  The store is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Phone 434-985-7279.

Sal’s Pizzeria

Sal’s Pizzeria serves pizza, calzone, stromboli, subs and sandwiches of all kinds, appetizers and .  desserts.  Wine and beer also available.  Sal’s is located in the shopping center west of Stanardsville at 8265 Spotswood Trail.  Hours are Mon. – Thurs. from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.; Fri. and Sat. from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.; and Sun. from Noon to 10:00 p.m.  Phone 434-985-1234.

►Blue Ridge Pottery
